Building a Network of Safety,
One District at a Time
Since 2010, One Heart Worldwide has partnered with the Government of Nepal to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare systems in some of the hardest-to-reach parts of the country.
Our Network of Safety model ensures that every district we work in has well-trained service providers, strong maternal and newborn healthcare infrastructure, and the local government ownership necessary to sustain change long after we conclude our collaboration.
2026 Program Reach
In 2026, we will be active in 19 districts, expanding our impact to new districts in the Karnali, Madhesh, and Lumbini Provinces.
Expanding into Lumbini Province
Known as the birthplace of the Buddha, Lumbini is a diverse region comprising both isolated hill communities and densely populated plains communities. Many of its remote communities are home to marginalized ethnic groups and low-income farming families.
Lumbini faces deep inequities in access to quality maternal and newborn health services, driven by shortages of well-trained providers, inadequate health infrastructure, and limited government resources. Additionally, for many women in rural Lumbini, hospital services are either physically inaccessible or financially out of reach, leading many families to opt for unsafe home deliveries and contributing to disproportionately high rates of complications during and after birth. As a result, Lumbini faces the highest maternal mortality rate of all of Nepal's seven provinces at 207/100,000 live births, significantly above the national average of 151.
Expanding our programs to Lumbini will provide access to quality maternal and newborn healthcare to
166,000 mothers and newborns every Year.
Working alongside the Lumbini Provincial government and the various district and municipal governments, our programs will give access to quality care to those who would otherwise lack it.
