Maternal and Newborn Deaths in Nepal:

Since 2010, our maternal and newborn health (MNH) system-strengthening work has successfully supported the Government of Nepal's efforts to reduce maternal and newborn deaths. 

However, too many mothers and newborns still face life-threatening risks during pregnancy and childbirth, especially in remote and underserved areas, often because of gaps in care quality.

Nepal’s goal is to reduce maternal mortality to under 70 deaths per 100,000 live births and newborn mortality to under 12 per 1,000 live births by 2030, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Reaching this target will require continued investment in health facility Infrastructure improvements, training for healthcare providers, and community outreach programs.
