Community Groups & Stakeholders

Since 2010, We have trained 15,519 Community stakeholders.

 

1,099 Local Community Groups Mobilized for mnh in 2021

In 2019, we introduced “Community Groups Mobilized” as a new impact metric that tracks and records the number of community groups receiving support from OHW. This includes FCHVs groups, mothers groups (women of reproductive age), pregnant mothers groups (subset of mothers groups including only currently pregnant women), husbands groups, and In-law groups. OHW staff helps establish local groups when missing, and provides all members with specialized culturally appropriate MNH training to promote healthy behaviors and increase access to care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the newborn period.

"We were having a tough time managing Walankha Birthing Center because the facility was in dire need of renovation. Though we had allocated a budget for the facility management, the full upgrade that was needed was too much for our annual budget because of other priorities like road repair and drinking water. We were very delighted to know that One Heart Worldwide was willing to help us upgrade the birthing center. We were happy to contribute 35% for the renovation from the budget of our Walankha Rural Municipality. On behalf of the whole community, I want to extend our gratitude to One Heart for providing support at one of the most remote municipalities in the district. We are already seeing improvement in the MNCH services, which will improve even more in the days to come."

Together, we conducted trainings in birth preparedness and use of misoprostol, we conducted a needs assessment of the birthing center, and we recently started providing continuing medical education in MNH. OHW has done excellent work in this district, which is among the most remote and underdeveloped in eastern Nepal.”

Even though I am not from health background, I have come to understand that birthing is no more just a female issue. Rather men like us who are chosen by the community need to be aware about how safe deliveries can save so many lives and support this. Coordination between Khijidemba Rural Municipality and One Heart Worldwide had brought many smiles in health workers and mothers of [our area]. “As elected Ward Chairman, I will make this my foremost agenda and it is because of OHW. Working with them for the renovation of the Yangpang BC was the first time I came to realize the importance of quality in healthcare. Now that I know the importance of delivering at a health facility, I have proposed a budget for our ward to support a mobile RUSG (rural ultrasound) program at all the birthing centers so that mothers can be encouraged to go and have these services available for safe delivery. Seeing the newly renovated BCs encourages me to increase our efforts to improve access for mothers and their babies. We are looking forward to the awareness activities to be launched so that more of our people can know about the importance of institutional delivery.”
